Riverfront Revitalization Project Update
Tree removal has begun on the Riverfront Revitalization project. Due to bat migration patterns, this phase of the project had to be completed in March or delayed until October.
Approximately 20 trees were scheduled for removal, but once the project is completed, they will be replaced by approximately 40 new trees.
A certified arborist was consulted regarding the health and projected lifespan of some of the larger, more familiar trees. Unfortunately, his assessment and recommendation indicated that the trees were not healthy and did not have an extended life expectancy. Their removal, while difficult, was necessary for the safety and progress of the revitalization effort.
Additionally, core samples are being taken to evaluate the geotechnical conditions where the current retaining wall is scheduled to be extended.
While different aspects of the project will continue, significant construction in the park will resume after the Fourth of July Festival. At that time, the park will be closed and the demolition/construction process will continue.
